Best practices for advanced sign-up forms

Identify best practices to enhance your sign-up form strategy, so you can move the needle for your key business objectives.

    Best practice #1

Entice site visitors with engaging copy and design

Curate your sign-up form to immediately capture and hold the attention of site browsers. How you communicate your message is essential to driving form submission rates, so design with the audience in mind and adhere to these tips.

Sign-up forms with engaging copy & design

    1. Emphasize the offer with high-converting phrases

Your language can make or break whether or not a site visitor decides to submit. Frame your copy to center around them; phrases like “You’ve got an offer” or “You’ve unlocked 10% off” work well. Additionally, if you are offering an incentive, make sure it’s front and center so it’s not missed.

    2. Use a “micro-yes” or survey to increase engagement

Consider asking site viewers whether or not they want your incentive, before asking them to consent to marketing; if they’ve already answered yes to your first question, they’ll be more likely to agree to your second. Alternatively, ask them about themselves with an intriguing question about their interests or preferences.

    3. Collect your data in multiple steps

If you ask too much of site visitors within a single page, they may get overwhelmed and close out of your form. Ask questions and collect data using multiple steps to increase submissions and mitigate potential overwhelm.

Optimize your form with targeting and display settings

In Klaviyo, you can customize the timing and audience of your forms with targeting & display settings. Learn how to enable settings that deliver the right message and move the needle for your form goal.

    1. Preview your form on web and mobile

Always use the preview functionality to see how your form looks on both desktop and mobile devices. Check that your offer and your call to action are clear and readable, and that your design is effective for both devices.

    2. Use OR-based trigger logic

OR-based trigger logic allows you to expand the criteria for when a form appears during a session. For example, you can set timing parameters like how many seconds it appears after a session begins, percentage of page scrolled, or exit intent. Make sure you toggle off the setting for Only display if all selected conditions are met, so your conditions follow OR-logic.

    3. Enable short reshow intervals

Don’t miss out on potential subscribers; set your Frequency to appear after just 1 day for site visitors who are returning back to your site. That way, you can capture site visitors who are exhibiting high interest in your brand, and avoid losing out on people who may have closed your form by accident.

    Ease the submission experience

The more barriers to entry you can remove, the better. There are a few ways you can make submitting sign-up forms easier than ever for site visitors; learn when to use each, and why they’re helpful.

    Smart opt-in form

    1. Use smart opt-in to collect SMS consent

It takes a little bit more effort to submit information via a mobile device. Simplify the process by using smart opt-in to collect SMS consent; that way, site visitors can input a quick 6-digit code to confirm their subscription.

    2. Add go-to-inbox buttons to collect email consent

Go-to-inbox buttons make it easier than ever for site visitors to confirm their consent to receive email marketing. The go-to-inbox button is located on the success page of the form, and brings site visitors directly to the email where they can quickly confirm sign-up.

    3. Enable lead capture with Shop

If you use Shopify for your ecommerce provider, you can turn on lead capture with Shop. When enabled, Klaviyo recognizes Shop Pay users, which improves both their sign-up process and automatically applies their sign-up discounts at checkout.
