What you need before enabling WhatsApp
Before turning on WhatsApp in Klaviyo, make sure you have the following:
- Admin or Owner access to your Klaviyo account: Only users with these permissions can enable WhatsApp in Klaviyo.
- Your Facebook login and access to your brand’s Meta Business Account: If your company doesn’t have a Meta Business account yet, you can create one by heading to Meta Business tools.
- A sending phone number: You can use an existing number, purchase a number from a provider (e.g., Twilio or Infobip), or request a free number from Meta during setup. This cannot be a number that you already use to send text messages in Klaviyo.
- A display name for WhatsApp: This is the name customers will see when you message them on WhatsApp.

Scale your mobile strategy with flexible WhatsApp pricing
Klaviyo pricing is built for flexibility across all your mobile channels. You can manage SMS, MMS, RCS, and WhatsApp from one place, using shared credits that automatically adapt to the message type and destination. This makes it easy to grow your mobile strategy while keeping costs predictable.
Note: RCS is currently in private beta with a limited number of functionalities. You can request access to this or any other Klaviyo beta via the Beta Landing Page but acceptance is not guaranteed. Klaviyo Support will assist customers enrolled in the beta but cannot provide updates on applications.
Shared mobile credit pool
WhatsApp uses the same credit pool as SMS, MMS, and RCS, giving you flexibility to choose the right channel for every customer interaction.
A single credit balance makes it easier to manage your mobile spend, and Klaviyo automatically deducts the correct number of credits based on message type and destination.
This shared system helps you scale efficiently and focus on growing your business without worrying about complex billing.
Smart pricing based on message type and destination
WhatsApp message costs depend on the type of message you send (marketing, transactional, or service) and where your recipient is located.
Marketing and transactional messages use pre-approved templates and are billed per template. Service messages, which are replies within a customer-initiated 24-hour window, are free.
Klaviyo automatically applies the correct pricing and currency for each destination, so you do not have to manage it manually.
