This step will cover the key aspects of setting up text messaging for your client in order to get them started quickly and in a compliant way. It will not go through step-by-step details of using the setup wizard. For more details or technical help with setup, refer to this help guide.
Enable SMS and choose sending numbers
Navigate to Settings > SMS and click Set up SMS for free. Follow the on-screen instructions to choose the regions your client wants to reach, and configure the sending numbers as prompted. With branded sender IDs and UK long codes, you can begin sending right away. All other numbers, such as toll-free numbers, AUS long codes, and short codes, must be verified first. Do not send from these numbers until you've confirmed that they are verified.
Does your client need to migrate an existing sending number from a different provider? Follow our guidance on how to port a sending number to Klaviyo.
Update client's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
Follow the prompts to configure a mobile terms of service within Klaviyo if your client does not have an existing terms of service (TOS) page, or modify your client’s existing TOS page. Complete the on-screen instructions. If you are adding to your client’s existing TOS, you can simply copy the text that Klaviyo has generated for mobile TOS and paste it onto the relevant page on your client’s site. Be sure to also update your client’s privacy policy to explain how you will handle personal data.
Review SMS settings
Navigate to your account name in the lower left corner. Click Settings > SMS. Configure all SMS settings that were covered in the Key SMS settings and functionality lesson, paying special attention to message add-ons, revenue attribution window, and organization info for virtual contact cards.
Select a monthly billing plan
Once the sending number has been verified (if applicable), you can start sending SMS for free with our complimentary plan. It’s still recommended to choose a billing plan right away and enable auto-upgrade to avoid interruptions since you will likely use more credits than the free plan allows as you begin implementing SMS for your client.
